I am slowly making my way through an advanced copy of Rob Halford‘s new autobiography, and it is quite a read. Besides the actual content, what really stands out is Rob’s British sense of humor. The book is filled with many revelations, one of which is that he once tried to make a move on former Iron Maiden frontman Paul Di’Anno.
The revelation comes in an excerpt from the book that was published to Metal Hammer. In 1980, Judas Priest invited Maiden to open for them on tour. In an interview, Di’Anno was quoted as saying that Maiden was “going to blow the bollocks off Priest,” something that didn’t sit well with Priest guitarist K.K. Downing and almost got Maiden removed from the tour.
“We didn’t really hang out and banter with Maiden much on that tour, but maybe I took Di’Anno’s comment that he would blow Priest off stage too literally… because the one night we got drunk together, I tried to seduce him! We went to my room to carry on drinking, but I was too pissed to try anything, and he was too pissed to even know what I wanted to try.”
Halford concludes “I think that was definitely for the best.”
Perhaps it was indeed for the best. Rob’s book, Confess, is out on September 29th via Hachette Books. The Telegraph has called it “one of the most candid and surprising memoirs of the year.” Order your copy here.
