We have heard rumblings of Down‘s first new music since their 2014 EP Down IV – Half 2 for a number of years now, nevertheless it looks as if it is truly taking place! In accordance with guitarist Kirk Windstein, the band spent a while within the studio final week doing somewhat writing and in the end knocked out two songs (kinda). He mentioned in a Fb submit: “So…we kinda wrote 2 Down songs right this moment!!!”
For these unaware, Down is Windstein (Crowbar, Eye Am) and fellow guitarist Pepper Keenan (Corrosion Of Conformity), vocalist Phil Anselmo (Pantera), bassist Patrick Bruders (Saint Vitus, ex-Crowbar), and drummer Jimmy Bower (Eyehategod). Down launched three very influential albums between 1995 and 2007 – NOLA in 1995, Down II: A Bustle in Your Hedgerow… in 2002, and Down III: Over the Underneath in 2007 – earlier than dropping two EPs beneath the collective Down IV moniker in 2012 and 2014.
In a current interview with Scott Penfold of Loaded Radio earlier in October, Windstein expressed his hopes that the band may launch an EP of six new songs in 2024.
“We talked about doing like a cover-song EP. However we threw round like 100 songs and we won’t decide and select any of them. So, to me, it is simpler to simply go, ‘Hey, guys, let’s get within the fucking room and simply write some shit.’ Come out with six songs and do an EP. So I hope that that is what occurs.”
“To be trustworthy, I do not know,” he added. “And this isn’t from Phil or Rex or something. They will do the Pantera factor without end. Like so far as festivals in South America, Europe and whatnot, they’ll — they’ll at all times go do a weekend or two in the summertime right here and there between Zakk and Charlie‘s schedules… no matter they’re as much as with their respective bands. So I hope that they do. I hope they do it without end.”
