FRANK KOZIC, a prolific album cowl and poster artist who designed album covers for QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, MELVINS, OFFSPRING and others, has died on the age of 61.
His iconic album covers embrace QUEEN OF THE STONE AGE’s self-titled album, MELVINS’ “Houdini,” and the OFFSPRING’s “Americana.” Among the bands whose tour posters he designed embrace NIRVANA, SONIC YOUTH, THE WHITE STRIPES, BUTTHOLE SURFERS and BEASTIE BOYS.
Wrote his spouse SHARON, “FRANK was a person bigger than himself, an icon in every style he labored in. He dramatically modified the trade he was part of. He was a artistic pressure of nature. We’re so past fortunate and honored to have been a part of his journey, and he can be missed past what phrases may ever specific. He liked his spouse, his cats, basic muscle automobiles, mentoring others, and DISNEYLAND. His forceful presence can be missed by all who knew him. His legacy, like all nice masters, will stay on via his artwork and our recollections of him.”
KOZIK started doing posters for native rock bands in AUSTIN within the early ’80s after being a part of the mail artwork group. He began his personal label, MAN’S RUIN RECORDS, releasing data by KYUSS, HIGH ON FIRE, MELVINS and extra. He was the artistic director at KIDROBOT, an artwork toy firm.
